Project Description

The current Restaurant – Pizzeria is located in the San Marco district, near the famous Teatro Goldoni from which it takes its name, in the heart of the historic center of the city.

It was possible to realize the project thanks above all to a substantial research carried out in the Archives of the Municipality of Venice: the aim was to join two physically separate environments and forming part of two distinct building units. The analysis was therefore aimed at demonstrating the correct intuition regarding the unification of the two commercial activities.

The turning point of the analysis was the discovery of a building permit dating back to the 1930s, which demonstrated the existence of a door hole that once connected the two units and which had been bricked up in the following years.

The part of the building that was used as a stationery store has been renovated, and now the unit develops mainly in length, so the design choice of superimposing full and empty spaces has bridged the lack of natural lighting. Furthermore, the careful choice of artificial lighting and the use of punctual brass elements have given the room a more radiant perception, making the spaces pleasant and welcoming.

As for the interior of the rooms, a classic and elegant style was opted for, which is based on plays of light and the use of different materials. Given the exposed beam ceiling, the same warm nuance of wood has also been re-proposed for the flooring, for the panels placed next to the walls, for the doors and for the furnishing accessories, covered with a red leather that recalls the same shade.
